Legal Youth Prototype: A Full-Stack Web Product for Legal Guidance

Legal Youth is a prototype web application for making legal information easier to explore. It combines a React frontend, a Node and Express backend, search-style flows, resource pages, interactive tools, and map-based legal aid discovery.

The technical value of the project is in product structure: it turns a broad, sensitive information domain into navigable routes and user workflows.

Frontend Structure

The React application uses routing to separate major experiences such as search, categories, articles, resources, tools, maps, forum, profile, login, and registration. Material UI provides a consistent component foundation, while motion and layout choices make the interface feel more approachable.

The homepage includes a search entry point and topic cards for common legal needs. It also contains a lightweight keyword-response assistant for areas such as tenancy, employment, student issues, consumer problems, family topics, and privacy.

Backend Shape

The Express server handles JSON parsing, CORS, security headers, logging, health checks, demo API routes, and production serving of the React build.

Even as a prototype, this backend skeleton matters because it creates the right boundary for future search APIs, account features, resource storage, and moderation workflows.

UX Considerations

Legal information can be stressful to navigate. The design needs to reduce friction, use plain language, and guide users toward relevant resources without pretending to replace professional advice.

The prototype structure supports that by making categories, search, maps, and tools available as separate paths rather than burying everything in one long page.

• React Router is useful for modeling a product as a set of user journeys, not just pages.
